How takeFive Works

The combined ingredients in takeFIVE work in concert along two main pathways to health: they boost the immune system (termed "immune-modulation"), and they also directly fight viral infections.

Andrographis Paniculata

Andrographis paniculata enhances the immune system by stimulating production of white blood cells and the release of interferon, a protein made by cells to fight viruses. It also inhibits glycoproteins within the virus, impeding the virus' ability to invade cells in the body and replicate. Several clinical trials have found that andrographis can help reduce symptom severity and duration in people with common colds.

Astralagus Membranaceus

Astralagus membranaceus and Panax ginseng are both adaptogens; herbs that increase the body's endurance and resistance to a wide array of physical, chemical and biological stressors. Astralagus enhances antibody function and enhances the immune system by improving the response of the white blood cell line including lymphocytes, monocytes and natural-killer cells. Astralagus has been studied at the University of Texas and found to improve the immune response in cancer patients.

Panax Quinquefolium

Panax ginseng also stimulates immunoglobulin production involving lymphocytes, and macrophages. Macrophages are part of immune defense that help destroy foreign invaders such as infectious microorganisms. Several recent trials demonstrate that Panax reduces the incidence and frequency of recurrent colds by more than half, and significantly decreases the duration and severity of cold symptoms.

Pelargonium Sidoides

Pelargonium sidoides acts by preventing viruses and some bacteria from attaching to mucous membrane cells and stimulating the body's immune system in such a way that both bacteria and viruses are prevented from multiplying. It induces the interferon system and acts as an expectorant, allowing the body to expel contaminated mucous and making conditions less suitable for bacteria and viruses to multiply. Pelargonium sidoides was recently positively reviewed by the American Journal of Family Practice as an effective alternative treatment for the common cold and bronchitis.

Sambucus Nigra

Sambucus nigra has been shown to neutralize and reduce the infectivity of influenza viruses A and B. It appears to neutralize the activity of hemagglutinin spikes found on the surface of several viruses, so that the virus can no longer enter the cells and replicate. Sambucus also has immune-modulating activity by inducing the interferon system and up-regulating cytokines, which in turn activate phagocytes that respond to and counter inflammation. Clinical trials from Israel and Panama have demonstrated that Sambucus extract stimulates the immune system and also directly inhibits eight different influenza viruses.

*The above statements are drawn from numerous in vitro and population-based studies involving the ingredients in takeFIVE. (refer to medical research section). We recognize that the scientific data is limited, and these claims and results need to be replicated in future trials. While there is not enough scientific data to be conclusive, the result of our medical literature review is compelling. We invite and welcome any legitimate scientific institution to conduct randomized controlled trials on the efficacy and biological mechanisms of takeFIVE.
